HONOURING IRISH WAR DEAD

ANTHONY P. QUINN,

ANTHONY P. QUINN,

A chara, - Like Kevin Myers (An Irishman's Diary, July 16th), I recently attended the National Day of Commemoration at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham. There, Alex Maskey, Lord Mayor of Belfast, was congratulated by myself and other Dubliners for his courageous gesture in remembering the Irish killed at the Somme.

At Kilmainham I also complimented Mark Durkan, Deputy First Minister and leader of the SDLP, for the constructive role adopted consistently by that party under himself and John Hume, Nobel Peace Laureate, on the road to reconciliation. Another SDLP activist, Alban Maginness, as Lord Mayor of Belfast, participated in remembrance ceremonies. - Is mise,
