Sir, - Since when have our elected representatives undertaken a policy of trying to force property owners to subsidise the Government's appalling social housing programme?

The owner of the property in Ballybough who has been criticised by Tony Gregory as being unethical has a constitutional right to sell his property to the highest bidder. The landlord is not under any moral obligation to provide social housing; that is what taxes are supposed to provide. I generally respect Tony Gregory for his strong and independent stance, but surely he should be on the Government's back in this instance and not that of a law-abiding citizen who is operating as a capitalist in a capitalist society. - Yours, etc.,
