Madam, - I wonder why Aileen McKerr (May 30th) laughs ironically at Co Meath's new signage on "Ireland's Heritage Capital" because of modern development.

People in Meath, as well as the many visitors to the county, are fortunate that access to many of the Meath heritage sites, on-site services and promotion are improving all the time.

Trim, in particular, is very fortunate that two wonderful new hotels, being built by two separate local developers, will be of great economic and cultural benefit to the town and county. One of these hotels in particular will serve greatly to complement the Trim Castle experience for locals and visitors alike. This hotel has been the subject of much unbalanced negative comment in the media, including The Irish Times.

Rather than constantly criticise, it is about time people acknowledged the positive aspects of this development and its contribution to opening the experience of "Ireland's Heritage Capital" to more and more people. - Yours, etc,
