Madam, - Some media commentators are referring to the Ryder Cup at the K Club as "the biggest sporting event this country has ever seen". It involves, in all, 24 participants.
Three years ago we hosted the Special Olympic World Games with over 7,000 athletes from 160 nations.

Madam, - I notice it took almost two hours for Ian Woosman and his Garda escort to travel from Dublin airport to the K Club (The Irish Times, September 17th). Could I, as a lower-income, non-golfing taxpayer, extend my sympathies at this unforgivable delay? - Yours, etc,
