Sir, - After a glance to check that the picture at the top was of John Waters, not David Quinn, the religiously inclined Irish Times reader of Monday, 26th August will perhaps have murmured approvingly at the Waters column - and in the case of clergymen or clergywomen, possibly acknowledged that what he wrote was better than what they preached the day before.

No response in needed, but if one is permitted, could it be this? God actually is a human being, and one quite critical of religious institutions. "Get behind me, Satan," and so on. - Yours, etc.,
