Madam, - I enjoyed reading the article on Ray Davies in The Ticket last week, because The Kinks were one of my favourite bands when I was a teenager. But I was surprised that Brian Boyd didn't mention two of the band's greatest hits, Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon and Lola.
The former topped the charts in July 1966, the month England won the World Cup, and is evocative of an era when life was lived at a more leisurely pace than it is nowadays, while the latter is simply a superb pop song.
Both songs have stood the test of time - proof that Ray Davies is indeed one of the finest song-writers of his generation. - Yours, etc,
JOE PATTON, Chapelizod, Dublin 20.
