A Chara, - I write concerning the notice of proposed sale by Enable Ireland of a portion of its property at Sandymount Avenue, Dublin 4, as outlined in the Commercial Property section of your edition of (June 23rd).

As a resident of Sandymount, I am most concerned that another proposed residential development would be the third within a few yards of Sandymount Avenue. This road is already hardly able to accommodate the volume of traffic using it. Three additional developments would surely be contrary to all good planning.

I also note that the map of the site for sale includes what was the children's sports field. This was vacated while the new school and clinic were being built. Firm assurances were given that the children's sports field would be fully reinstated.

To Enable Ireland's credit its policy is to consult its stakeholders and neighbours before making any major decisions. I am not aware of any local consultation taking place. I can only assume that the Sandymount School board of management and its Parents and Friends Association have been consulted and have given their approval for such a sale.

It was the Sandymount Parents and Friends Association that put up the money to purchase the entire site in the mid-1950s. - Yours, etc.,
