Madam, - In response to the Labour Party's plans for Dublin Bus ( The Irish Times, November 28th), I would suggest that this company be given some support in restructuring its routes before clogging up the city even more. For decades we have watched passively as all bus routes head for the centre city with only a token attempt to put radial routes into operation. We have the ludicrous situation whereby the Naas bus to UCD goes via Kildare Street.

Students from Lucan and Clondalkin face two-hour journeys to Belfield via the city centre. Even students living in Tallaght, Templeogue, and Knocklyon have no direct bus route to the campus. Students attending Maynooth suffer similar anomalies.

With thousands travelling on these routes and hundreds travelling on similar routes to business parks on the outskirts of the city, isn't it time for thorough planning? - Yours, etc,

CORA SHARKEY, Celbridge, Co. Kildare.
