Sir, – Dublin Bus, which provides a valuable public transport service to those not fortunate enough to live convenient to the Luas service, must stand up to any attempt to prevent a whole range of very busy routes from going through College Green. Thousands of commuters are already experiencing considerable inconvenience arising from changed bus routes during the Luas extension project. It is inconceivable that these changes would be permanent and that buses would be permanently banned from going through College Green. City councillors need to take a stand with Dublin Bus to ensure this does not happen. A vast pedestrian area around College Green is no substitute for an effective bus service on the very many routes provided by Dublin Bus and for a huge cohort for whom Luas is not an option. Poor planning for the Luas extension project, which is stated to be the reason for a proposal for permanent bus route changes, is evidence of a shocking failure by Dublin City Council’s planners and project managers. The level of oversight by our elected local representatives is surely questionable. – Yours, etc,
MARY LONERGAN,
Rathgar, Dublin 6.
