Madam, - It is sad to see so many suburban lawns in Dublin being replaced with bricks or paving slabs to provide extra parking places for cars. Birds rely on grassed areas to provide insects and worms. Disappearing hedges and lawns and the indiscriminate use of herbicides bode ill for our feathered friends in the encroaching concrete jungle. - Yours, etc.,
JASPER SCARGILL, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
