Crisis in orthopaedics at Tallaght

Madam, - I was alarmed and disappointed to read the letter from the orthopaedic surgeons in Tallaght Hospital (June 6th).

Madam, - I was alarmed and disappointed to read the letter from the orthopaedic surgeons in Tallaght Hospital (June 6th).

This very moderate and reasoned letter highlighted the fall in the number of beds available for elective orthopaedic surgery from 50 to 20 at a time when demand is increasing and the possible outcomes are continually improving.

I am currently recovering from a total knee replacement operation performed by surgeon David Moore in Tallaght. The satisfactory outcome has given me back a mobility that had deteriorated over the years.

I would be very sad and angry that patients like myself in Greater Dublin could be denied this operation or that have their treatment delayed.

Public need and financial logic call for this bottleneck to be solved as quickly as possible.
