Sir, - I would like to reassure your readers that the classical subjects have not disappeared from the school curriculum and that last week more than 2,000 students sat their Leaving and Junior Certificate examinations in Latin, Greek and Classical Studies.
It was surprising and disappointing that, alone of all the examination subjects, they were ignored by your Exam Times review of the papers.
These subjects continue to make an important contribution to Irish education. - Yours, etc.,
