Madam, - With another proposal to cut down on binge drinking by limiting the opening hours of night clubs, Fianna Fáil and the Health Minister have again blindly addressed this problem with no logical attention to the consequences of their actions. Not only will this lead to people drinking earlier in the day before they embark on a night out, it will mean large crowds leaving night clubs and pubs at the same time, thereby creating potential for trouble.

Surely, it would be far more logical to open 24-hour clubs. This would give people the freedom of choice to drink when they want. It would also mean crowds of people would not leave these establishments at the same time or rush for last orders. It could generate more capital for proprietors, more employment for prospective workers, less the burden on Night-link buses, and the gardaí, allow for people to use toilets on the premises rather than urinate on the streets and benefit everyone, especially the ever draconian Minister. - Yours, etc.,
