Madam, - Seamus Brennan informs us of his intention to increase speed limits on our "better" roads and lower the limits on "country" roads, as these are where most road deaths occur. This surely is an empty gesture and an indication of failure on different levels:
- The failure to enforce the penalty points system, especially on our "country" roads, and in areas without speed cameras.
- The continued and insane opportunity handed to new motorists to take the wheel without any previous knowledge or experience.
The Minster could find a better use for the crazy levels of car tax and VRT we motorists pay by addressing the points above. - Yours, etc.,
HOWARD FOYE, Westport, Co Mayo.
