Campaign against water charges

Sir, – John O'Connor (September 30th) seems to think we should give up the campaign on water charges and he mentions "numerous social problems" facing us today that are being overlooked.

The Right2Water campaign is not led by the Anti-Austerity Alliance but includes thousands of people who are not aligned to any party but who want to keep our water services in public ownership.

This Government could save itself so much bother by inserting into the Constitution a provision that our water services will be kept under public ownership. That is worth fighting for and could help to address a major social problem today – the ongoing attack on our public services. – Yours, etc,
