Madam, - My car was clamped in a loading bay on Good Friday in the Fitzwilliam Square area. I had no option but to pay up, but while doing so I complained that this was a bank holiday and therefore the same as a Sunday during which loading bays did not apply. I was told I have to abide by the street signage, which does not mention bank holidays, though I understand that there are 14 of them.

Is this another device to extract as much money as possible from the (perhaps deliberately) confused motorist? Or does the heavy traffic congestion on Christmas Day and other bank holidays require the imposition of these fines? This ambiguity should be removed by signage. If there is no room for detailed explanation on the street signs, it could easily be done on the roadside ticket dispensers. - Yours, etc.,
