BAD BEHAVIOUR ON THE BUSES

AMELIA POWER,

AMELIA POWER,

Sir, - I am writing to commend Dublin Bus drivers on their recent unofficial strike action in southwest Dublin.

I am a visiting student from America and I use the bus service from north Dublin into the city every day. The behaviour that I see exhibited on those journeys is enough to make me wonder why the buses don't stop altogether. There is a constant cloud of smoke (a frightening fire hazard as well as a health risk), there are people stuffing trash of all varieties into any crevice they can find, and rocks and firecrackers hitting the windows inches from my face. If that's what I have to endure as a passenger, I can only imagine the immature and ignorant behavior the drivers must have to cope with.

I think that a certain segment of the bus riding population really needs to grow up and learn how to behave in a public vehicle (I don't think it's that hard).

Until then, I think drivers should stand up for themselves by ceasing service when necessary. - Yours, etc.,
