Madam, - In his article of July 4th on the seemingly unavoidable schism within the Anglican Church over gay bishops, Patsy McGarry tells us that the US Episcopal Church in the diocese of Newark has announced that one of its nominees for bishop is "a non celibate homosexual man living with his male partner".

He also reports the response of the spokeswoman of the American Anglican Council, Cynthia Brust, to this announcement "staggering - way beyond defiance".

In the same edition, the contributor to your Teen Times column, Aisling Bulger, aged 17, writes: "I believe the gender of the person we love is immaterial; it's more important we love them well".
