COLIN BRADY,
Sir, - Those of us who live in rural England have grown used to the vagaries of the Royal Mail. Many village post offices have closed, delays are common, and delivery times seem carefully selected to cause maximum frustration to businesses. Postal services in Ireland, however, would appear to be going from strength to strength.
The latest time-defying innovation from An Post must surely be the envy of mail delivery systems throughout the world, for on July 26th I received an item posted in Sligo and clearly post-marked August 24th, 2002 (enclosed). A new record perhaps? - Yours, etc.,
COLIN BRADY,
