Madam, - David Jennings (February 22nd) complains about staff attitudes in both Aer Lingus and Ryanair.
As a fairly regular traveller on Aer Lingus UK and, to a lesser extent, transatlantic routes, I strongly disagree. At all times I find the staff friendly, cheerful, helpful and courteous. My request, as a tall person, for extra leg-room is usually granted (though it is more difficult to get on long-haul flights).
Cabin staff have a demanding task which they perform admirably. Does Mr Jennings give them a pleasant greeting when going on board? Does he thank them when disembarking? Sometimes it is passengers whose attitude leaves something to be desired.
Returning from London last Saturday evening while the big match was on, the captain kept us informed on the state of play. How about that for service? Because of its non-union policy and poor PR, I never use Ryanair so I cannot comment on its staff. - Yours, etc,
Mrs C KIERNAN, Wheatfield Road, Dublin 20.
