Sir, – It is noticeable how bored US president Donald Trump looks, as French president Emmanuel Macron proudly gives him a tour of the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles (front page, June 18th).

Or, perhaps he was just plain exhausted as he appears in an earlier photograph of him being greeted by the French president (page 7).

Never mind all those wars to resolve, it may be that, at 80, all that late night commenting on Truth Social may be taking its toll. With a further 30 months to go, he may be hoping that he can manage to stay awake during all these interminable G7 meetings. – Yours, etc,
