Deeply moving account of a cancer diagnosis

I have seldom read such a searingly honest appraisal of a situation faced by many people

Letters to the Editor. Illustration: Paul Scott

Sir, – It is hard not to be deeply moved by Alan LaCasse’s account of his cancer diagnosis (“I have accepted that I will die. Sooner, rather than later”, March 16th). I have seldom read such a searingly honest appraisal of a situation faced by many people. It is a moving requiem for his life: “All I ever wanted was a family of my own. It is them I mourn for.”

All I can say is that, whenever he is no longer with us (and may that be some considerable time away), his voice, as written here, will be a precious memento for his wife and children that will speak down the years. I wish him peace and quietness. – Yours, etc,

IAN D’ALTON
