Sir, – Outrageous conduct in the car-hire industry was perfectly captured by Seán Moncrieff in “The woman in the car rental office was a black hole of emotion” (Magazine, October 5th).
A good tip is to take a close-up video of the car exterior while still at the car-hire office (where they can see you doing it) for use when returning the car and if being charged an exorbitant price for what may or may not be a “scratch” that you caused – or that was there before you ever rented the car. At least you will have the evidence as a basis for a good argument to discommode the “black hole of emotion” in the rental office. – Yours, etc,
