Sir, – What is incomprehensible about Michael Harding’s piece “I picked the only week Ireland had good sunshine to take a package holiday” (Life, October 9th) is the lack of any explanation as to why someone of his breadth of interest, knowledge and experience would contemplate a package holiday as anything other than stifling.
I look forward to more of his insights. – Yours, etc,
MONICA NOLAN,

Sir, – Sulking in the cloudy Algarve, Michael Harding thinks of “the swimmers and surfers clogging the sandy beaches of Donegal”. I can confirm that, from the tiny golden coves to the expansive silver strands, Donegal’s 1,000km coastline is open, capacious and unclogged. – Yours, etc,
Dr JOHN DOHERTY,
