Sir, – John McManus writes that it is magical thinking to believe Eamon Ryan’s additional emission reduction measures will help us achieve our climate change targets (“Eamon Ryan’s extra measures to combat climate change are magical thinking”, Opinion & Analysis, June 6th). But the real dream is to think our efforts (even if successful) could have have any significant impact on global emissions.
China is approving new coal power projects at the equivalent of two plants per week. Ireland could sink into the sea tomorrow it would not make any significant difference to global emissions. – Yours, etc,
