Sir, – The recently proposed low-interest loans for retrofitting of houses would appear to have little relevance for those on average incomes.
The current proposal for a maximum loan of €75,000 over a period of 10 years would amount to a payment of €625 per month simply to clear the capital never mind the interest. This amount may be a trifle to the authors of this proposed scheme but would clearly be beyond the means of the majority. Like all schemes thus far, from electric car subsidies to solar panel grants, only the relatively wealthy can afford to avail of them. –Yours, etc,
