Sir, – Congratulations to Rugby World Cup final referee Wayne Barnes on his retirement.
A fond memory of mine is that I had the pleasure of attending Ireland’s Grand Slam victory at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in 2009, where the English man was the only person in the entire stadium to think that Brian O’Driscoll had scored a close-range try.
After a TMO referral, the try was awarded. Ireland went on to make history and a golden era of Irish rugby began.
