Sir, – Five days before my daughter was due to go back to her school, I received an email to say that she will not have a bus service to get her to school. My daughter attends a special school, is a wheelchair user and is highly medically complex. She has had a bus service for the last five years. We live quite a distance from the school, have three other children in two different schools and both work.
Can anyone tell me how it could not have been established months ago that this would happen? That is has happened at all is appalling – that we have been given five days of notice is absolutely ludicrous.
There is no way that we can organise alternative transport for her to and from Sandymount from our home in Crumlin, while I work in Clondalkin and my husband is in the city centre.
All of our arrangements have been made for the coming school year and now, five days before school started, this lack of forethought, preparation and planning by Bus Éireann and the Department of Education and Science turned all of that on its head and left us and a number of other families, quite frankly, screwed. – Yours, etc,
