Sir, – Seán Andrews’s letter describes a future I want to belong to! No ironing!
Perhaps the Oireachtas could elect an Ironing Board, peopled by hard-pressed TDs, with a brief to deal with all the dirty laundry currently being washed in public.
I imagine all such appointments would be announced by the Dáil press office. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I’d like to add my support to Seán Andrews’s campaign to ban ironing. I gave up ironing 10 years when I became a mother and suddenly had no time to accomplish such mundane tasks. I have never looked back. I haven’t worn a piece of ironed clothing since, apart from the odd special occasion, and I doubt if anyone has ever noticed. Glad to be doing my bit for the planet, as well as for my own wellbeing and precious leisure time! – Yours, etc,
