Sir, – Further to “The Irish Times view on Trump’s fourth indictment: how can the Republican party still support him?” (Editorial, August 16th), the conundrum of how voters remain loyal to a man facing this swathe of prosecutions, and with such abundant evidence in the public domain, may be best considered as a quirk of human psychology – one that most of us suffer at times.
Since his first appearance on the political scene, there have been few presidential candidates more divisive than Mr Trump.
For his more vociferous supporters, the hardest thing is not to admit that they were wrong – it’s to admit that their opponents were right. – Yours, etc,
