Sir, – Further to recent correspondence (Letters, August 8th), I can report that, having been born in Waterford in 1949, I was old enough sometime after that to recall my father being aghast, and irate, when he was asked to pay a half-crown, worth two shillings and sixpence, for a large (roll that “r” please) bottle (of Guinness, capacity one pint). – Yours, etc,
SEAMUS McKENNA,
Maynooth,
Co Kildare.
