Sir, – It seems extraordinary that Irish Rail catering services only offers catering services to customers who can pay by bank card. If one does not have a bank card and has only cash, the transaction is refused. This appears to be discrimination against the cash customer. However, if you travel on the Enterprise service to Belfast from Dublin Connolly you can pay by cash in euro or sterling and card and you are not discriminated against. Not everyone has a bank card. – Yours, etc,
RICHARD CRUISE,

A chara, – A possible compromise solution to this problem might be an option to buy refreshment trolley credit when the train ticket is purchased.
Perhaps something similar to phone credit which could be used as required when purchasing items from the food trolley. As an incentive, free credit could be given at random during the introduction of the system. – Is mise,
