Sir, – In her column “Gary Lineker is politically juvenile, but the BBC is utterly naive”(Opinion & Analysis, March 13th), Finn McRedmond states that Lineker “isn’t qualified on the subject of the refugee crisis”. I wonder who she thinks is qualified. How can you get a qualification in compassion? – Yours, etc,

A chara, – Is all the media attention on the treatment of Gary Lineker by the BBC just a way to get people to talk about the popcorn without discussing the movie? – Is mise,

Sir, – The BBC versus Gary Lineker. Not exactly match of the day, is it? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – The BBC could yet snatch victory from the jaws of defeat as the most interesting footballing outcome from the Gary Lineker controversy is that the Match of The Day audience last Saturday increased by over half a million viewers, who were delighted to just watch highlights without commentary or analysis by ex-players, who appear to argue that every goal is preventable and the ultimate outcome should be a scoreless draw. The BBC could have inadvertently stumbled upon something here – and also saved itself a fortune. – Yours, etc,
