Sir, – In An Irishman’s Diary (January 26th) Frank McNally takes me back to my mother singing The Pride of Petravore. She said that Eileen Óg could have lived on the Glangevlin Road out of Swanlinbar between the town lands of Gubnamadra and Gubnawooly beside the lovely waterfall at Tullydermot Falls.
I can imagine French reflecting on the local drainage problems while sitting beside those magical roadside falls as a local Eileen came to enjoy some of its mineral-rich waters. – Yours, etc,
