Sir, – My heart goes out to the children who were and are being isolated at school (“She eats lunch on her own. She has no one calling over holidays”, Health + Family, January 17th).
It is incumbent on schools to develop and maintain a pastoral system that is embraced by pupils as well as teachers.
I have always found that senior pupils were essential and wanted to help pupil inclusion.
As a teacher, I attempted to know the first names of every one of my pupils and walked the corridors and playgrounds trying to spot the “invisible” pupils.
If a child is not happy at school they will not achieve to their full potential.
Small gestures from teachers will have positive impacts on children. All pupils deserve the best. – Yours, etc,
ENDA CULLEN,
Armagh.
