Sir, – Frank McNally mentions an old Native American legend that Lake Superior never gives up her dead (An Irishman’s Diary, November 10th).
This is largely true as it contains a thermocline which stops the bodies rising from the very cold waters on the bottom.
Like all folk wisdom, sometimes there’s a grain of truth in it. – Yours, etc,
