A four-day week?

Theory and reality

Sir, – Are people who share the same view as Will Breen (Letters, November 10th) sure that employees are prepared to drop income by 20 per cent to facilitate a four-day week?

Employers, smaller firms in particular, cannot afford the alternative, a 25 per cent increase in wage costs, assuming the additional hire to cover the fifth day that customers require goods or services is paid at the same rate.

There are studies, reports, outliers, and then there is the real world. – Yours, etc,
