Sir, – I saw the short work, The Master by Alberto Caruso and Colm Tóibín, at Wexford last Sunday. I was moved to tears by its power, which builds slowly through the opera, and packs a punch at the end.
The music is lyrical. It is beautifully and carefully produced. Every member of the cast acts as well as they sing. They portray myriad small roles. I enjoyed the scene in the museum. Tenor Thomas Birch and mezzo Annabella-Vesela Ellis are convincing in the lead roles.
The Master received a lacklustre review from your critic last week. I write to say that I do not agree. I think it’s brilliant.
