Sir, – In reference to your correspondent writing in support of Brazilian citizens voting in their home elections from Ireland and bemoaning that Irish citizens abroad cannot do the same (Letters, November 1st); as a proud Irishman who has lived in London for 30 years, what gives me the right to tell Irish people how to live their lives?
If all the Irish people living in Britain decided to vote en masse for the blue party or the yellow party in a general election it would skew the result in one direction or another, but they wouldn’t have to live with the consequences of that outcome.
Overseas voting only works for countries with very large populations.
