Nissan makes bold claim

Nissan has released the first proper picture of the new Qashqai, a car which the company is describing as “the most significant car in its modern history and which will redefine the crossover sector and set new standards across the board”. No pressure then.

Nissan will doubtless be feeling the pressure of recreating a car which has not only set sales records across Europe (it hit the one million-sales mark barely four years after its launch) but which effectively set the parameters of the compact crossover segment.

The latest model will feature a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine as one of its core models.

The unit, which will be the only petrol model alongside the familiar 1.5 and 1.6 diesels, will have 113hp. But Nissan hasn’t given any indication as to its emissions levels yet. The new Qashqai will go on sale in the spring of 2014.
