Unmoscow - President Vojislav Kostunica of Yugoslavia said yesterday his government will send a request formally to join the United Nations in yet another step towards ending Belgrade's diplomatic isolation. Mr Kostunica was speaking in Moscow after talks with President Putin.

Federal Yugoslavia, comprising Serbia and Montenegro, was never admitted to the UN following the collapse of the former Yugoslavia in 1991, and the seat has remained vacant since 1992.
