Gardaí from Salthill are investigating a fatal road collision which happened yesterday in Co Galway.
A woman believed to be in her 70s was killed when her car collided with a wall at 1pm at Knock, Inverin, Co Galway. There were no other occupants in the car and no other vehicle was involved.
The woman's name will not be released until relatives are informed.
In Co Wicklow last evening, a two-car collision at Kilmacanogue resulted in one car overturning. Bray fire brigade attended the scene. However, it is believed nobody was seriously injured in the crash.
The number of people killed on the roads so far this year has increased compared to the same period last year. Up to August 2nd this year, 240 people had been killed according to figures released by An Garda Síochána. This compares with 225 killed during the period up to August 2nd, 2005.
Of those who lost their lives this year, 113 were drivers, 61 passengers, 40 pedestrians, 20 motorcyclists, five pedal cyclists and one motorcyclist pillion passenger.
