A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a 15 year-old boy who had been held in a Garda cell because of the lack of accommodation for juvenile offenders.

The teenager did not turn up in the Children's Court yesterday on burglary charges. He was released on bail last Monday having spent two nights in Garda custody because of a shortage of places in a juvenile remand centre.

He had been picked up the previous week by gardai who found him sleeping rough in a car. He was wanted for failing to turn up in court on charges of burglaries earlier this year in Co Tipperary.

He was before the Children's Court on Monday when he was given his own bail of £75, provided he live with his mother, observe an 8 p.m 8 a.m curfew and sign on daily at his local Garda station in Dublin.
