A bench warrant was issued yesterday for the arrest of a mother who failed to turn up at Galway District Court where a charge for abandoning her 4-year-old child in a play area at a Supermac's restaurant in Galway city last September was due to be finalised.
The 39-year-old Galway woman was captured on security cameras leaving the premises at Eyre Square, on February 3rd last, after she let her child walk upstairs to Funworld, a children's play area in Supermac's.
She pleaded guilty at the time to abandoning the child, contrary to section 246 (1) and (2) of the Childcare Act, 2001.
The woman told the court at the time she thought her baby-sitter was upstairs at the time.
