Shannon Heritage has embarked on a nationwide search for entertainers for their medieval banquets in Clare and Galway.

The Shannon Development subsidiary, which operates one of the country's top tourist attractions, is offering work in castles at Bunratty, Knappogue, Dunguaire and in the traditional Irish night in Bunratty Folk Park.

"If you'd like a job performing for guests from the four corners of the world, singing and entertaining, this is the job for you," Mr John Ruddle, chief operations officer, Shannon Heritage, said yesterday.

The medieval banquets are Ireland's longest-running dinner entertainment.

Shannon Heritage has just celebrated 40 years of medieval banqueting. The first commercial banquet was held in Bunratty Castle in 1963.

Foreign travel is often part of the job for the entertainers, who have toured in Germany, France, The US, Canada, Australia and the UK. They have a worldwide reputation for excellence.

They have entertained statesmen and film stars, including John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Crown Prince Akihto of Japan, Pope John Paul II, Princess Grace, Jackie Kennedy and Bob Hope.

Many of the entertainers have gone on to become well-known figures in the music and television industry, including actor Séamus Power, who plays Dermot Fahy in Fair City, and Jim Bartley, who plays Bella in the series.
