A US judge has sentenced defrocked priest Paul Shanley to a minimum of 12 years in prison for his child rape conviction last week.

A jury found Shanley (74) guilty of raping and molesting a boy in the 1980s at a Boston-area church.

The case hinged on memories that the accuser, now 27, said he recovered in 2002 as a clergy sex scandal rocked the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston.
