Two east Belfast men charged with extortion

Two men from east Belfast men were remanded in custody this morning after appearing in court on extortion charges.

Two men from east Belfast men were remanded in custody this morning after appearing in court on extortion charges.

David Alexander Bennett (29) and Robert Lowey (28) both with an address at Frazer Pass, were also accused of claiming to be UVF members.

The men were charged with threatening individuals to demand money and receiving money contrary to the Terrorism Act. Mr Lowey was also charged with having a pistol and ammunition. Both pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The men were remanded in custody until September 16 th.
