The Tánaiste, Ms Harney, is to meet a delegation from Carlow Chamber of Commerce next week to discuss the job losses at the Braun plant in the town.
Braun announced the loss of 225 jobs at the electrical appliance plant on August 28th, as part of a streamlining of its worldwide operations. The Carlow Chamber of Commerce delegation, led by its president Ms Colette Morrissey and chief executive Ms Jacqui McNabb, will meet Ms Harney in Dublin on Monday to discuss the impact of the job losses on the local economy and what measures can be taken to promote industry within the county.
The Tánaiste has already stressed that the priority is to find alternative employment for those affected and has highlighted the fact that the IDA is investing €8 million in building a new business and technology park on the Dublin Road in Carlow, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
