A woman died when her car collided with a tree at Roundwood, Co Wicklow yesterday, bringing to six the number killed on the road since Sunday. The incident occurred at Diamond Hill, Roundwood at around 8.40 p.m. The woman had not been identified last night, said gardai.

Two men died in separate car crashes in Skreen, Co Sligo.

Mr Stephen Tempany, aged 44, of Templeboy was killed at 11.56 a.m. yesterday when the car he was driving crashed into a wall in Doonflynn, Skreen. This was less than a mile from where Mr Oliver McGowan, aged 30, from Dromore West, died in a collision at Skreen at 6.15 p.m. on Sunday.

Three other people, a man and two women, were injured in the crash and remain in Sligo General Hospital. The man is in a critical condition while the women are in a "serious but stable" condition.

Meanwhile, three more people were killed in two separate road collisions early yesterday. Two men in their early 20s died when the car they were travelling in hit a wall on the Dualla Road, Cashel, Co Tipperary, at 12.25 a.m. In Fermoy, Co Cork, a man in his 20s died when his car hit a pole on Patrick Street at 3 a.m.
