Gardai described as "very significant" the discovery yesterday of a mortar in the south-east. The mortar was found in a State forest at Shelmalier Commons, Murrintown, about four miles from Wexford town.

The searches yesterday to counter "Oglaigh na hEireann" were concentrated near Wexford town. They will continue today and may be extended. "Oglaigh na hEireann" is an amalgamation of the "Real IRA" and the Continuity IRA.
